Annals of Excellent Signage

Kudos to those in the design department at the new Brit’s Fish & Chips in downtown Charlottetown for their new sign, which is a triumph of simplicity:

Fish & Chips

At least it’s simple to Canadians and Brits, but not necessarily to Americans (at least those outside of New England). I ordered “Fish & Chips” in a seafood restaurant in Virginia Beach once, and they did not know what I was talking about. Turns out you have to ask for “Fish & Fries”, or a “Fish Fry”!

By the way, Brits seems to be a mini-chain out of Edmonton.
See www.britsfish.com.
Same logo as on the Charlottetown store.

The owner of the Edmonton store has moved to PEI and opened location #2.

Ah yes, but are the fish and chips any good (I imagine the fish is…) have you sampled?

They definitely know what fish and chips are here in Atlanta. It’s a standard menu item, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they do a good job.

Hi — Yes the fish and chips are good at Brits! — and yes we are in Edmonton — I’m originally from Britain — Edmonton is where i opened my first 2 stores — Charlottetown is where i’ve moved to raise my kids, & sell my traditional British F&C -
Im a qualified Fish fryer from UK — never ever do we sell FRIES we peel and cut our own spuds into traditional half inch CHIPS and if you have them to take away we do wrap them in paper. Come try us out!
Cheers -
Paul Lawson.
